Nab Cottage

Nab Cottage began as afamily, a language school, and an international community in 1983. At theschool, students and teachers live together and study together, so there iscontinuous interaction in English. It is in the centre of the Lake DistrictNational Park, an area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity, which iscurrently being considered for World Heritage status. The school overlooks asmall lake and is surrounded by mountains. There are many wonderful walks fromthe cottage including waterfalls, caves, valleys, mountains and rivers. Theregion is very popular with British tourists so there are many facilities inthe villages, including cinemas, shops, bars, clubs, boating, tennis, fitnesscentres and leisure spas -Windermere, the largest lake in England, is just 3kmaway. The four colourful andcomfortable classrooms are all in the beautifully converted barn right next toNab Cottage. Facilities include computer, WIFI, listening and reading library.Students can use the facilities here at any time including evenings andweekends. The barn was built around 1800 and the thick stone walls and originalfeatures have been kept. Nab Cottage takes a maximum of 20 students in theschool at any time. Classes are very small. Students are all adults and come fromall over the world. Teachers apply a holistic model of learning, encouragingstudents to behave, think, dream and relax in English. This creates a strongfoundation, because everybody learns from each other and grows in confidenceand self-esteem. Teachers ask everyone to speak only in English all the timethey are on the course.Regarding accommodation,students live at Nab Cottage, sharing the space and the facilities. Thebedrooms are all cosy with beautiful views, and most have their own shower andtoilet. Downstairs there is a sitting room with log fire, a TV room, a pianoroom, dining rooms, and a large farmhouse kitchen. The gardens around thecottage and barn are used for lessons when the weather is fine. There is also apatio with barbecue where everyone often eats lunch, an orchard, avegetable/flower garden and an outdoor sauna. Breakfast, lunch, dinner andteas/coffees are included in the price. You can buy alcoholic and soft drinksat cost price.There are different coursesavailable at Nab Cottage. The General English For Adults course usually runsfrom June to September. People can enrol on any Sunday and stay for between 1and 13 weeks. Each week is made up of 35 contact hours and includes: LargeGroup/Whole Community Sessions to establish confidence, Small Group Classes,which are organized in groups with 4 to 9 students of the same level andconcentrate most of your work at the school; One To One Sessions (weeklytutorials with a teacher); Guided Study Sessions and Small Group Activity Sessions.Other courses offered by Nab Cottage include Closed Group Courses, designed forgroups or companies, English & Yoga, English & Walking, One-to-onecourses (which can be booked apart from the general courses) and ExperientialEnglish for Teachers.
